Now that 2013 is off to a good start, how are you coming along with your new year’s resolutions? Did you make any AAUW resolutions?
At the national level of our organization, AAUW directors made resolutions to:
— Recognize 2013 as the 50th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act and call attention to the need to update this important legislation
— Make sure AAUW priority legislation including the Paycheck Fairness Act, Equal Opportunity Restoration Act, and Violence Against Women Act is reintroduced in the 113th Congresss
— Hold the Obama administration accountable to women and families by making sure new federal regulations reflect AAUW’s public policy positions
— Make AAUW priority issues “trend” nationwide on social media
At the local level your AAUW resolutions might be:
— Attend all general meetings and state convention there in Rochester in April. Maybe even volunteer to help out at the convention.
— Start gathering books you no longer need for the used book sale at our May general meeting. Volunteer to help with the book sale.
— Continue to give generously to AAUW fundraisers and causes. Last year our fundraising benefited the Rochester Area Science Fair, Rochester Public library, 4H, the Imagination Library and other local programs. Let me know if you can think of any other groups or projects you would like our branch to support.
Best of luck to everyone with your personal and AAUW New Year’s resolutions.
