AAUW Feb President’s Letter from Beth Nienow

AAUW Rochester has already been having a busy year participating in several community events, programs, and activities that we help sponsor and support: human trafficking awareness, Rochester Women Magazine Extraordinary Women awards, and Beat the Odds.  More opportunities for involvement are ahead.

The Rochester Regional Science Fair will be held February 13-14 at the RCTC Regional Sports Center.  The theme for this year is “Adventure Science”.  AAUW Rochester once again will sponsor a $100 award for an outstanding project by a middle school female student and a $100 award for an outstanding project by a senior high girl.  If you are interested in helping select our winners, please contact Diane Hellie.  According to Diane, it is not necessary to have a science background to help judge the projects.  AAUW values the importance of supporting  girls in science, technology, engineering and math as part of our mission to break through barriers for women and girls.  Members are encouraged to work within our communities to ensure that we reach equity in these important, traditionally male dominated fields and to introduce girls to female role models.

Also remember to mark your calendars for the AAUW Minnesota state convention in Minneapolis April 11-12.  It will be an opportunity to see the recently renovated Gale Mansion if you haven’t been there recently or before.  More information will be coming soon.
